Our garden is open to the public 24/7.

 

We welcome individuals and families to join us in our mission to promote sustainable living and improve mental health by connecting people with nature and teaching them the art of growing food.

  • How is the Garden funded?
    It is 100% operated by volunteers and funded through membership fees, donations, and grants. We are always looking for ways to increase our funding so we can maintain a healthy and thriving garden for our members and broader community.
  • What is the cost to become a member?
    We have two types of membership. $59 Friends of the garden $149 Working member For details please refer to our membership page.
  • What is the membership fee used for?
    The membership fee is used to cover some of the costs of maintaining the garden, purchase soil, tools, pay for council, water rates and insurance premiums.
  • Does the garden offer discounts for multiple members from the same household?
    Unfortunately no, we are funded 100% through member fees and fundraising and run 100% by volunteers. However, we offer many benefits including free organic produce, learning sustainable practices, access to all garden tools, training and support.
  • What are the expectations for working in the garden if I'm a member?

  • How does the garden works?
    The garden does not contain individually owned plots. We encourage members to work together to care for and maintain the beds and garden. Our members have the opportunity to harvest seasonal produce to share with family and friends. We also host regular events, working bees and workshops. Our workshops offer members and the broader community the opportunity to learn and share their gardening skills.
  • If I have a question who can I contact?
    You can send us an email at Maroubracommunitygarden@gmail.com The garden is 100% operated by volunteers, the mailbox is not monitored on daily basis, but we will endeavor to get back to you within 24-72 hours.
  • How do I know what maintenance tasks are required for this week?
    Thank you for asking! As the working member, we carrying out regular maintenance tasks to keep the garden healthy and safe for visitors. The tasks are listed on a White Board in the garden, if you are not sure what to do with a particular task, please seek clarification from the Member's WhatsApp group, we have a great support network to assist all members.   • Where do I put the cuttings from the garden?
    All cuttings from the garden can be composted to create organic matter, which can then be used as a natural fertiliser in the garden beds. Composting is a great way to reduce waste and keep the garden sustainable. If you are not sure how to compost, please refer to our Composting System page for details.
